There’s so much frat boy humour out there now. This whole Judd Apatow craze - I don’t like it. It excludes girls, and it doesn’t do anything particularly great for our culture. Getting wasted, throwing up, ignoring your girlfriend, who gets that?

Parker Posey (via goldenfiddle & sarahcroberts, with mascarah adding: … she is damn right.) (via boutofcontext)

Oh please.  Every male aged 16-24+ gets it, and that’s not a bad thing.  These movies aren’t meant to “do anything for our culture” anymore than mean girls, clueless or legally blonde 1 and 2, but they certainly reflect it.  They exaggerate and find humor in the real situations that young people find themselves in; the awkward sexual encounter, the uninvited guest at a house party, the sad attempt at procuring alcohol while underage—all perfect fodder for teenage comedy.

They don’t exclude women anymore than the aforementioned girl-movies exclude men.  Instead, they simply characterize the opposite sex through the extremely narrow lens of the pre-pubescent male brain.

I’m sure the lovable Posey’s upcoming film Spring Breakdown will be a sexually neutral tidal wave of cultural sophistication.
